Stripes + 12 Things About Me
Happy Monday! I hope y'all had a great weekend. I certainly got lots done around the house! I spent countless hours (12+) outside completing yard tasks between Friday and Saturday. If you want to see something funny, just imagine me mowing the grass. Let that sink in because it's a hoot! But I'm sorta getting the hang of it now. I also know how to use an electric hedge trimmer, weed whacker, and leaf blower. I also paint too! Just call me Joanna Gaines. Betcha didn't think I was handy, eh? I'll surprise you. Anyways, lots of the feedback is saying that y'all are interested in learning more about me. So I'm going to be as open as I possibly can be and try to share things you may not know about me already.. Here we go!
O N E | I'm completely and utterly obsessed with my dogs.
We all love our dogs, but anyone who has seen me around my dogs will tell you how obscenely evident my love is for them. Generally speaking, if I can't bring my dogs with me somewhere chances are that I am counting down the seconds until I can be reunited with them. To put it simply: I get really anxious when I am not with them and they just make me feel 1000% better. Now I've always loved dogs/have been an animal person but never anything like this. I talk to them ALL THE TIME and ya know what? I truly believe they understand what I'm saying to them! Although, like children, I do think they have selective hearing sometimes. But I'll keep them, even with their stinky puppy breath and hairs shedding everywhere. They're the best.
T W O | I HAVE A TURQUOISE PROBLEM.
Don't know what to wear? Chances are that I'll suggest turquoise. As you can see in this outfit it goes with just about anything! I consider myself more of a neutral gal so adding a pop of color is one of my go-to's to spice up an outfit. So don't knock it til you try it, because I'm sure once you do that you'll be hooked on turquoise too! Oh, did I mention all of our kitchen accessories (dishes, mixers, and more) are all turquoise)? I shared a little peek into our kitchen here if you'd like to check it out!
t h r e e | i'm the youngest of four.
...and I'm the only girl! You'd think I'd grow up being a tom-boy but that I did not. My mom always reminded me that I used to attend my brothers baseball games in dresses, all the while playing in humungous dirt piles. Good thinking Manny. BTW, Manny is what my family calls me. And yes, I just referred to myself in the third person. Bye Felicia!
F O U R | I STUDIED FASHION MERCHANDISING + MANAGEMENT IN COLLEGE.
Not too surprising considering the whole "Style Blog," right? But style is something that I've always been interested in! When I was in high school it was a clear decision for me and I never once strayed away from it despite the criticism's of many people. The "what do you do with a fashion degree?" or, "why'd you get a degree to work in retail?" comments. It's one of those things that used to always bother me, but I've learned that some people just won't get it. I didn't get a boring business degree. I got much more than that! I studied business, all while being able to use my creative side too! And that is exactly what I love about the fashion industry. So just a word of wisdom; don't let anyone make you feel like what you want isn't good enough. If it's what you want, it's worth it.
F I V E | I ENJOY HORSEBACK RIDING + SMELLING LIKE A HORSE.
Oh, the scent of a barn is literally once of my favorite fragrances. It's something I can't even begin to explain or understand why I love it so much. But being around horses has always been so therapeutic for me. Even if it's just cleaning stalls and feeding, I enjoy the lifestyle so much. I used to ride more in high school and college, but since moving away I'm really trying to get back into now that we have a place to call home. My hope is to have horse of my own some day so I can teach our children love and compassion. Something that I think it is learned so much so from animals.
S I X | I PURGE ON THE REGULAR.
I can't stand junk or debris just sitting around. So pretty much every week, I tidy up my closet and get rid of clothes that are gently used. I tend to sell them on Poshmark so if you're interested in checking out my closet, head here. There is something so satisfying to me about getting rid of things. I wouldn't say I'm a minimalist because Lord knows I've got way too many "things," but I don't like to keep things if I don't need them.
S E V E N | I LIKE TO WRITE EVERY SINGLE THING IN MY PLANNER.
I like to makes lists for my lists. And I really like to cross things off! So even if I just completed a task, I'll write it in my "to do" list just so I can cross it off and feel accomplished. Strange, I know! But it really helps me feel like I achieved something.
E I G H T | I MARRIED MY HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEART.
I know y'all know that I'm married to a baseball player, but did you know that we first started dating when we were just babies in high school? It's been a long time; 11+ years but I wouldn't change it for a thing. We have both learned SO much over the past decade and grown together in ways that I couldn't even begin to put into words. I'm so grateful that our paths crossed years ago! Had I not transferred from public school to private school, I may not have met my soulmate. And he is just that! The kindest, sweetest, most driven, and most handsome (I could literally go on forever, but I won't) man that I have ever met.
N I N E | I RARELY EVER DRINK ALCOHOL.
...Instead I drink lots of coffee. I'd like to say I had some eye opening experience, but I just really grew out of it. After I turned 21, my desire to drink just vanished. I remember I used to give my cousins such a hard time because they couldn't hang with my "underage drinking self," but now I can't even hang with myself. LOL. I fall asleep early and enjoy nights in on the couch over everything. Don't get me wrong, in the right situation (like on a beach with a pina colada in my hand) I will have a drink. But it's just not my thing anymore. The idea of drinking, staying up late, feeling like crap the next morning just sounds so unbelievably unappealing! So I'll just stick to my coffee.
T E N | SPEAKING OF COFFEE; I DRINK A LOT OF IT.
..But you probably already knew that! I drink coffee in the morning, in the middle of the day, and I really enjoy a cup of coffee before bed. People are always amazed when I tell them that it helps me sleep. I'm thinking because it is warm that's why it helps, but I'm not really sure. Because in the morning it sure does give me life! This is kind of a funny story, but every baseball game I went to last year I always brought iced coffee with me. It got to the point where I needed to get a disguised tumbler to bring my coffee into the stadium. As a baseball WAG, they pretty much let you bring in whatever you need in. So there I was with my Starbucks in hand (EVERY. SINGLE. GAME.) and apparently, fans were noticing. I guess they wanted Starbucks too and realized that it wasn't sold inside. Oh well! So I had dump it into a stadium cup every game after that happened. But hey, I still got my coffee!
ELEVEN | I REWATCH MOVIES/TV SHOWS.
I don't know why exactly, but I just really enjoy rewatching things. I'm always interested in learning new things so I think it's just because I always learn something new each time I rewatch something. Like I notice something that I didn't before. It's safe to say that I've rewatched the entire Harry Potter series at least 40 times. Probably even more than that. Right now, I'm rewatching Grey's Anatomy. Bring on the tears.
T W E L V E | I'M SUPER NEGLECTFUL OF MY NAILS.
So I really enjoy having my nails done, but I really despise paying to have them done so often. Anyone with me? I recently started to do my own nails and I've gotten to be decent, but I started using the Sally Hansen gel system. So it works really good and the polish lasts longer than regular nail polish, but boy is it difficult to remove! It's for that reason why I haven't repainted them since. One question I'd like to know the answer to is why toe nail polish lasts forever? While finger nail polish chips 10 seconds after it's dry. If you can answer this question, I will give you a cookie. Ready, set, GO!
Well, another lengthy post on thegoldengirldiary.com but I hope y'all were able to stick with me. Do we have anything in common? Let me know below!
